FAQ?

Do we know what causes thymus cancer?

Do We Know What Causes Thymus Cancer? Not much is known about why thymus cancers develop in some people but not in others. Researchers have found some DNA changes that occur more often in thymus cancer cells than in normal cells. (DNA is the chemical in each of our cells that makes up our genes — the instructions for how our cells function.)

What is the survival rate of thymus cancer?

Thymic carcinoma accounts for 20% of all tumors in the thymus. The 5-year survival rate tells you what percent of people live at least 5 years after the cancer is found. Percent means how many out of 100. The 5-year survival rate for people with thymus cancer is 71%.

What is the prognosis for thymus cancer?

Typically, thymomas are slower growing and more responsive to treatment than thymic carcinomas. As a result, the survival rate is generally higher for patients with thymoma. However, a number of individual factors can influence a patient’s prognosis, regardless of which type of thymic cancer he or she has been diagnosed with.

What are the different types of thymus cancer?

  • Kaposi Sarcoma (Soft Tissue Sarcoma)
  • AIDS-Related Lymphoma (Lymphoma)
  • Primary CNS Lymphoma (Lymphoma)
